What you pay for when you buy furniture in the market
When you buy a sofa from a typical furniture store, the price on the tag covers far more than the sofa itself. Before it reaches you, a piece usually passes through several hands, and each adds its own cost:
- The maker builds it: frame, foam, fabric and labour.
- A brand or distributor adds its margin, warehousing and transport.
- The showroom adds rent for prime retail space, staff and its own margin.
- Marketing: advertising, discounts and sales events are built into the price too.
None of these layers make the sofa more comfortable or last longer. They’re simply the cost of the route it takes to reach you.
How URU’s factory price works
URU has made furniture at its own factory in Electronic City since 2008. We design it, build it and sell it to you directly. No distributor, no outside showroom chain, and almost no marketing budget (Shifa is our in-house marketer). That’s how we keep our prices about 40% below market price for comparable furniture.

Lower price doesn’t mean lower quality
A factory price is lower because of what’s removed (middlemen and markups), not because of cheaper materials. The best way to judge quality is to compare the things that actually matter:
- Comfort: sit on it for a few minutes and check the seat depth and back support.
- Fabric: feel the texture, look at the weave, and ask how it handles daily use.
- Build: check how firm the frame feels and how neatly it’s finished at the seams and corners.
- Warranty: every URU piece comes with a 5-year warranty.
